Games Market Steps Up 3 Gears

26/Sep/2011

Epic Games and Microsoft’s ‘Gears of War 3’ claims the top spot this week with the biggest launch of the year so far.

The finale of the Gears of War trilogy was close to selling as much as the combined launch weeks of the two previous iterations and makes it the 7th largest Xbox 360 launch to date (12th largest individual format launch). This means that Codemasters new entry ‘F1 2011’ has to settle for 2nd place and last week’s No1, Deep Silver’s ‘Dead Island’ (-54%), is now down to No3. 505 Games’ ‘Zumba Fitness’ (+7%) just keeps on going with a 7% increase in sales, stepping up from No6 to No4, with Eidos/Square Enix’s ‘Deus Ex: Human Revolution’ (-5%) holding fire at No5 and Ubisoft’s ‘Driver: San Francisco’ (-27%) down two places to No6. Last Week’s No2 and No3 both fall 5 places with THQ’s ‘Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine’ (-50%) now at No7 and Sony’s ‘Resistance 3’ at No8 (-50%). At No9 is Disney’s ‘Lego Pirates of the Caribbean’ (-25%) and 505 Games are the only publisher to have two games in the Top 10 this week with ‘Rugby World Cup 2011’ (-19%) at No10.
