Happy Anniversary For Adele

27/Jan/2012

Exactly a year since release, Adele celebrates 33 weeks at No1 on the Album Chart with ‘21’ and passes the quarter million sales mark in Ireland – the most successful album ever in Ireland over a 12 month period.

One Direction jump five places to No2 with ‘Up All Night’, matching their previous best position on this chart just before Christmas, and in the process dislodging Olly Murs who drops to No3 with ‘In Case You Didn’t Know’.  This week’s highest new entry is at No10 for Italian operatic pop trio Il Volo with their self-titled debut album – already a Top 10 album across much of Europe as well as the US.  The only other new entry in this week’s Top 30 is at No26 for Rodrigo y Gabriela with their fourth studio album ‘Area 52’. Their eponymous second album remains their most successful to-date, debuting at No1 in 2006.

Jessie J takes a second week at No1 on the Singles Chart with ‘Domino’, heading an Island Records Top 3.  Her label-mate Gotye leaps seven places from No9 to No2 with ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ (feat. Kimbra) and Rizzle Kicks climb one place to No3 with ‘Mama Do The Hump’.  Flo Rida (feat. Sia) has this week’s highest new entry at No15 with ‘Wild Ones’ while Home Gym Class take the next new entry at No17 with their cover version of ‘Ass Back Home’ – Gym Class Heroes’ original version was rush-released on Monday, not enough time to catch their imitators.  Lana Del Rey also achieves a Top 30 new entry with ‘Born To Die’ at No28, ahead of the release of her hotly-anticipated album of the same name released today (Friday).
