Bruce Springsteen demonstrates the power of live events to drive album sales this week as ‘Wrecking Ball’ rises from No7 to No1 and his ‘Greatest Hits’ leaps from No18 to No2 following his sell-out RDS Dublin shows on Tuesday and Wednesday. Both albums have already topped this chart on original release: ‘Wrecking Ball’ for three weeks earlier this year and ‘Greatest Hits’ for four weeks back in 1995.
In a quiet week for high-profile new releases, there are just two new entries in this week’s Top 40: Frank Ocean climbs to No28 with the CD release of his first solo album ‘Channel Orange’ after debuting at No45 last week on the strength of digital sales, and Hans Zimmer’s Batman soundtrack ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ is new at No33. As with ‘Channel Orange’, downloads for this soundtrack were available a week ahead of its physical release today (Friday).
Florence + The Machine climb four places from No5 to the top of the Singles Chart to claim their first Irish No1 single with ‘Spectrum (Say My Name)’, beating their previous best – No2 for ‘Shake It Out’ last year. With Will.i.am’s ‘This Is Love’ dropping to No2, there’s little significant movement at the top end of the chart, although two tracks make a first appearance in the Top 20. David Guetta’s ‘I Can Only Imagine’ (feat. Chris Brown & Lil Wayne) jumps from No35 to No18 and Lykke Li’s ‘I Follow Rivers’ climbs from No24 to No19.
