Taylor-Made for Swift Success

22-year-old American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift claims her first Irish No1 this week with her fourth studio album ‘Red’. Her self-titled 2006 debut has yet to chart in Ireland, but her second and third albums both made the Top 10 (‘Fearless’ No7 in 2008 and ‘Speak Now’ No6 in 2010).

Mumford & Sons’ ‘Babel’ dips to No2 after four weeks at No1, ahead of Emeli Sandé who climbs back to No3 with the release of a new edition of ‘Our Version Of Events’. This album was originally released back in February and has since then never left the Top 30. Jack Lukeman has the next new entry at No12 with ‘The 27 Club’, his sixth Top 20 album over a period of thirteen years and his first new material since 2009’s ‘Burn On’ which reached No9. Meanwhile over on the Compilation Chart, Swedish House Mafia break the ‘Now’ series’ 48-week stranglehold at the top, landing at No1 with their ‘Until Now’ collection, their follow-up to ‘Until One’ and the final release before the group’s hiatus.

Labrinth leaps thirty-five places from No36 to the top of this week’s Singles Chart with ‘Beneath Your Beautiful’ (feat. Emeli Sandé). Labrinth’s previous best as lead artist on this chart was ‘Last Time’ which reached No14 earlier this year, but for Emeli it’s a second No1, following ‘Next To Me’ which spent two weeks at the top back in February. Rihanna narrowly misses out on a sixth No1 single, climbing two places from No4 to No2 with ‘Diamonds’. This week’s highest new entry is at No8 for Naughty Boy with ‘Wonder’ (feat. Emeli Sandé – again!), the debut release for hotly-tipped British producer Shahid Khan and the lead track from his forthcoming ‘Hotel Cabana’ album – although the song also appears on Emeli’s ‘Our Version Of Events’.
