‘Spider-Man 2’ is No1 for a fifth week as the Top 3 titles are again all non-movers. Not since EA’s ‘Need for Speed: Underground’ at the beginning of the year has a game had more weeks at No1 in the Entertainment Software Top 40 (All Prices).
However, the Top 3 titles also have the highest drop in sales with a combined decrease of 34% overall. Despite the start of the Olympics being only days away, Sony’s ‘Athens 2004’ (PS2) is down one place from No4 to No5, replaced at No4 by EA’s multi-format, budget ‘Need for Speed: Underground’. Sega’s ‘Sonic Heroes’ continues to perform well due to retailer promotion, up from No10 to No6. ‘America’s 10 Most Wanted’ (PS2), Play It’s controversial FPS in which you have to locate and kill notorious terrorists, is the only new entry in the Top 40 at No22 and breaks into the ‘Most Wanted’ PS2 Full Price Top 10’ at No9. It is therefore not surprising that the only change at No1 in any of the individual format charts is BigBen’s ‘Dance:UK’ which climbs back to No1 on PS1. Activision/Id Software’s highly anticipated ‘Doom 3’ (PC) will no doubt be next week’s most wanted game when it is launched on Friday 13th August. Chart-Track will be at EGN (European Games Network) from 1-3 September 2004 (ExCeL – London Docklands). Come and see us at stand 410 (close to the EGN Press Office in The Market Place).
