Best Of 2012

James Arthur takes a third week at No1 with ‘Impossible’ on the last Singles Chart of 2012 – and over these three weeks he’s amassed sufficient sales to top the best-seller list of the year. It wasn’t until Christmas Eve that he sailed past Gotye’s ‘Somebody That I Used To Know’ and Fun’s ‘We Are Young’ to snatch the 2012 crown.

If not the best-seller of the year, Psy’s ‘Gangnam Style’ was certainly the phenomenon of the year, and this week he surges back to No2 from No10, matching his previous best on this chart twelve weeks ago. The Lumineers take a fourth week at No3 with ‘Ho Hey’, ahead of Rihanna’s ‘Diamonds’, up from No7 last week. Labrinth & Emeli Sandé complete the Top 5 with ‘Beneath Your Beautiful’, back up one place from No6.

On the Album Chart Rihanna’s ‘Unapologetic’ finally makes it to the top spot, up three places from No4 – her third No1 album in Ireland following ‘Good Girl Gone Bad’ and ‘Loud’. One Direction drop to No2 with ‘Take Me Home’ but by way of consolation this is the best-selling artist album of 2012 in Ireland, ahead of Ed Sheeran’s ‘+’ and Emeli Sandé’s ‘Our Version Of Events’. The overall best-seller of the year, however, is the compilation ‘Now That’s What I Call Music! 83’.
