Happy New Year for Ed

The first Album Chart of 2013 sees a return to No1 for Ed Sheeran’s ‘+’ – its third week at the top since release in September 2011. Over this 16 month period, ‘+’ has never dropped lower than No17 and has spent an impressive 60 weeks in the Top 10.

One Direction take a second week at No2 with ‘Take Me Home’, ahead of Rihanna’s ‘Unapologetic’ which dips to No3 after one week at the top. In the absence of any new entries, several of last year’s best-sellers are resurgent this week, including Calvin Harris ‘18 Months’ (up from No11 to No4), The Script ‘#3’ (up from No10 to No5) and Taylor Swift ‘Red’ (up from No16 to No7).

There’s no change at the top of the Singles Chart, with James Arthur claiming a fourth week at No1 with ‘Impossible’. After four weeks at No3, The Lumineers climb to a new high of No2 with ‘Ho Hey’, ahead of Will.i.am & Britney Spears ‘Scream & Shout’ and Bruno Mars ‘Locked Out Of Heaven’ at No3 and No4 respectively. For a second consecutive week there are no new entries in this week’s Top 30, although Alicia Keys, Carly Rae Jepsen, Otto Knows, Lykke Li, Jay-Z and Kanye West all make a New Year reappearance in the lower echelons with tracks from 2012.
