Vertigo debuts at the top for U2

12/Nov/2004

U2 debut at No1 on the Singles Chart with 'Vertigo' - their 18th No1 single in Ireland over a period of 19 years, and their first No1 since 'Elevation' back in July 2001. Eminem's 'Just Lose It' holds for a second week at No2 and Destiny's Child remain at No3 for a second week with 'Lose My Breath'.

Britney Spears falls from No1 to No4 with 'My Prerogative', one place ahead of Christina Aguilera and Missy Elliott's 'Car Wash' at No5. Blue have the second highest new entry this week with 'Curtain Falls' at No10 - their 12th single, all of which have made the Top 20 except 'Bubblin' which peaked at No21 earlier this year. Robbie Williams' 3-week reign at the top of the Albums Chart comes to an end this week as 3 new entries knock his 'Greatest Hits' down to No4. Britney Spears claims the top spot with 'Greatest Hits: My Prerogative', closely followed by Westlife's 'Allow Us To Be Frank' at No2. Mario Rosenstock's 'Gift Grub - The Best Of 2004' at No3 completes the trio of new entries at the top. For Britney Spears, it's her first No1 Album in Ireland despite six No1 singles, and for Westlife it's only their second of 6 albums NOT to debut at No1: 'Unbreakable: The Greatest Hits' debuted at No2 in November 2002, but went on to claim the Christmas No1 spot several weeks later.
