All Hail A7X

Several rock bands have reached the top of the Irish Album Chart over the past few years, including Queens Of The Stone Age and AC/DC, but this week Avenged Sevenfold claim the first Metal No1 since Metallica debuted on top with ‘Death Magnetic’ in 2008.

‘Hail To The King’ is Avenged Sevenfold’s sixth studio album and by far their most successful to-date. Their breakthrough came with their self-titled fourth album which reached No41 in 2007 and the follow-up ‘Nightmare’ reached No9 in 2010. Kodaline hold at No2 with ‘In A Perfect World’, just ahead of Meav who has the next new entry at No3 with ‘The Calling’ – well ahead of her previous best on this chart, No16 with Celtic Woman’s ‘A New Journey’ in 2007. With Nathan Carter dipping to No4 after a week on top with ‘Where I Wanna Be’, Bob Dylan claims the third new entry at No5 with the tenth volume of his ‘official bootleg’ series ‘Another Self Portrait (1969-1971)’. The previous volume ‘The Witmark Demos (1962-1964)’ reached No13 three years ago. The fourth and final Top 20 new entry is at No19 for Franz Ferdinand with their fourth album ‘Right Thoughts, Right Words, Right Action’. Their first two albums debuted and peaked at No2 and their third album ‘Tonight: Franz Ferdinand’ reached No10.

Finbar Furey is the final artist to secure his place in tonight’s finale of The Hit as he takes ‘The Last Great Love Song’ to the top of this week’s Singles Chart – giving the RTE show their first ever No1. It’s a good week for the TV show as Mundy also enters the Top 5 at No5 with ‘Jigsaw Man’. Katy Perry drops a place to No2 with ‘Roar’ while the third new entry of the week is for Shane Filan in his first solo outing since Westlife, with ‘Everything To Me’ new at No7. Further down the chart, Eminem makes his first Irish Top 30 appearance as lead artist for three years with new track ‘Berzerk’ at No16: his previous releases ‘Love The Way You Lie’ (feat. Rihanna) and ‘Not Afraid’ reached No1 and No3 respectively in 2010. With her previous release ‘We Can’t Stop’ at No10 after ten weeks in the chart, Miley Cyrus has the fifth and final new entry at No19 with ‘Wrecking Ball’ – both tracks from her forthcoming fourth studio album ‘Bangerz’.
