In With A Bang

Miley Cyrus makes headlines again this week as she achieves her first No1 on the Irish Album Chart with her third album release ‘Bangerz’ – 2008’s ‘Breakout’ only made it to No11 while 2010’s ‘Can’t Be Tamed’ debuted at No5.

The Arctic Monkeys have to be content to hold steady at No2 with ‘AM’ while last week’s leaders Kings Of Leon drop from the top spot to No3 with ‘Mechanical Bull’. This week sees six more new entries in the Top 50. Lucy Spraggan takes the first of these at No14 with her second album ‘Join The Club’ – her first release since signing to a major label. She achieved initial success last year with her independently released single ‘Last Night (Beer Fear)’ which reached No16. Panic! At The Disco are the next new entry at No23 with their fourth studio release ‘Too Weird To Live, Too Rare To Die’ – a better performance than 2011’s ‘Vices & Virtues’ which reached No34. Anna Calvi also makes her first appearance in the Irish Top 50 as her second album release ‘One Breath’ enters at No31 just ahead of the fifth new entry ‘Repent Replenish Repeat’ by hip-hop duo Dan Le Sac vs Scroobius Pip. Debuting at No33, this gives them their best performance to date on this chart. Prefab Sprout return after a four year hiatus with ‘Crimson/Red’ entering at No40 – not quite a match for 2009’s ‘Let’s Change The World With Music’ which debuted at No34 – while veteran rockers Korn see their eleventh studio album ‘The Paradigm Shift’ enter at No42.

This week’s Singles Chart also sports a new No1 as Lorde climbs two places with ‘Royals’ to seize the Chart crown. Katy Perry’s ‘Roar’ drops a place to No2 while Miley Cyrus’ ‘Wrecking Ball’ also moves down a slot to No3. Wicklow’s Hozier makes good progress up the chart with ‘Take Me To Church’ as he moves sixteen places up to No4 while OneRepublic’s ‘Counting Stars’ drops a place to complete the Top 5. The Saturdays take this week’s highest new entry at No9 with ‘Disco Love’ giving them their seventh Irish Top 10 hit to date while Justin Bieber achieves his fourth Top 20 hit as lead artist with ‘Heartbreaker’ debuting at No12.
