Sam's The Man

30/May/2014

Sam Smith impresses on both charts this week - a second week at No1 on the Singles Chart with 'Stay With Me' and new at No2 on the Album Chart with his debut 'In The Lonely Hour'.

John Legend holds at No2 for a third week with 'All Of Me', ahead of Klingande who claim this week's highest new entry at No3 with 'Jubel' - a Top 10 single across most of Europe for the French house duo. Following their three Croke Park gigs at the weekend, both One Direction and support act 5 Seconds Of Summer reap the sales benefits. 5SOS leap fifteen places from No19 to No4 with 'She Looks So Perfect', boosted not only by the gigs but also an appearance in HMV Dundrum on Saturday. One Direction have seven tracks in this week's Top 75, headed by 'You & I' which climbs from No33 to No7 following the release this week of a new digital EP. The second of this week's new entries is at No8 for Ellie Goulding with 'Beating Heart' - her seventh appearance in the Irish Top 10, four years after her debut 'Starry Eyed' reached No4.

With Coldplay's 'Ghost Stories' taking a second week at No1 on the Album Chart and Sam Smith's 'In The Lonely Hour' new at No2, this week's star performers are One Direction with all three of their albums featuring in this week's Top 10: 'Midnight Memories' up from No4 to No3, 'Up All Night' up from No13 to No7 and 'Take Me Home' up from No33 to No9. Neil Young has this week's second new entry at No8 with 'A Letter From Home', his 35th studio album comprising lo-fi cover versions of classic songs, and his 12th Top 30 album in Ireland since the turn of the century. As lead singer of Bell X1, Paul Noonan has been a regular on this chart over the past fourteen years, including three No1s, and this week he's new at No13 with his side project 'Printer Clips', an all-star musicians collective. The fourth and final new entry in this week's Top 20 is for Mariah Carey with 'Me. I am Mariah...The Elusive Chanteuse' at No19 - her highest position on this chart since 2008, when her 'Ballads' collection reached No8.
