No surprises as EA makes it 8 weeks at No1 in slowing market

15/Jan/2005

In another week of decreasing sales, EA makes it 8 consecutive weeks at No1 in the Entertainment Software Chart with ‘Need For Speed: Underground 2’, followed as ever by Rockstar/Take 2’s PS2 ‘Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas’.

There is little change in the Top 10 with Vivendi’s ‘The Simpsons: Hit & Run’ (up from No4 to No3) swapping places with EA’s ‘FIFA 2005’ at No4. There are 3 car games and 3 football games in the Top 10 with Sega’s ‘Football Manager 2005’ (PC) the best Top 10 performer - only dropping 29% in sales (up from No10 to No8). ‘Halo 2’ on Xbox is boosted by a host of end-of-year awards and is the highest Top 40 climber (up from No38 to No15), while the super-budget Midas game ‘Rollercoaster World’ (PS2) is the highest re-entry at No35, becoming the only Top 40 game to post a week-on-week sales increase (up 16%).
