9 week run is a 5 year record for Need for Speed: Underground 2

22/Jan/2005

EA’s ‘Need For Speed: Underground 2’ becomes the only game over the past five years to have more than 8 consecutive weeks at No1 in the All Formats Chart (since Eidos’ ‘Who Wants To Be A Millionaire’ launched back in week 50, 2000 which managed 9 weeks).

‘NFS: Underground 2’ holds on to the top spot for a 9th week despite the heaviest drop in sales (down 22%) of any Top 20 game. The Top 3 are all non-movers, while THQ’s ‘The Incredibles’ climbs one place to No4, pushing EA’s ‘FIFA 2005’ down to No5. EA has only 2 titles in the Top 10 (‘Need for Speed: Underground 2’ and ‘FIFA 2005’), their lowest Top 10 showing for a long time and the same number as Sega (‘Football Manager 2005’ and ‘Sonic Heroes’). A lack of new releases paves the way for Activision’s ‘Rome: Total War’ (PC) to re-enter the Top 40 at No25 (the highest climber, up 31% in sales).
