New Year, Same Number Ones

In the first chart of 2015, Mark Ronson & Bruno Mars hold at No1 for a third week with 'Uptown Funk!'.

2014's top sellers are still in the reckoning as we enter the New Year: Pharrell's 'Happy' led the chasing pack by a huge margin last year, and returns to the Top 40 at No38 this week. The second best seller of 2014 was John Legend's 'All Of Me' (No36 this week), ahead of Hozier's 'Take Me To Church' - No3 in the 2014 rankings, No7 this week and 15 months in the Top 40 without a break. The Top 3 singles of 2014 remains the same with or without the inclusion of streams, even though the most streamed track of the year was John Legend's 'All Of Me'.

For a third consecutive week the Top 3 albums remain unchanged, with Ed Sheeran at No1, Hozier at No2 and Sam Smith at No3. As is typical for this time of year, there are no new entries in the chart but plenty of re-entries. Price promotions on a range of digital 'Greatest Hits' albums sees a return to the higher echelons for Fleetwood Mac, Abba, Simon and Garfunkel, Michael Jackson, Bruce Springsteen, Phil Collins, Eminem, Kate Bush and Oasis.
