03/May/2005

The force is strong in Eidos this week as their distribution of Giant Interactive's ‘Lego Star Wars’ (PS2/XB/PC/GBA) gives the British publisher their first All Formats No1 since ‘Hitman Contracts’ almost a year ago.

With the Star Wars Episode III movie release only 2 weeks away ‘Lego Star Wars’ jumps from No2 to No1 increasing in sales by 18% and pushing Rockstar/Take 2’s PS2/XB ‘Midnight Club 3: Dub Edition’ down to No2. Eidos also record this week’s highest climber with ‘Championship Manager 5’ up 8 places from No29 to No21. The All Formats Top 10 is made up of 10 different publishers, while all 5 Top 40 new releases are also from different companies. The highest new entry is Jester/Duke Video’s ‘TT Superbikes’ (PS2) which debuts at No5 giving the racing genre a strong presence in the top of the chart with 3 games in the Top 5. NCSoft record their biggest UK launch so far with their 3rd UK massively multi-player online RPG ‘Guild Wars’ (PC) entering at No8 and replacing another online-only game ‘World of Warcraft’ at No1 in the PC Entertainment Chart. Other new games to make the Top 40 are Nintendo’s ‘Star Fox Assault’ (GC) at No23, Take 2’s FPS ‘Close Combat: First to Fight’ (XB/PC) at No28 and Sierra/Vivendi’s Age of Empire-like ‘Empire Earth II’ (PC) at No30.
