It's Lonely At The Top For Akon

Akon debuts at No1 on the Singles Chart with ‘Lonely’ – the fastest-selling non-charity single in Ireland since Mickey Harte’s ‘We’ve Got The World’ 2 years ago.

It’s Akon’s second single release, following ‘Locked Up’ which debuted and peaked at No10 in February, and still hangs on in the Top 30 after 11 weeks (No22 this week). Ireland’s 2005 Eurovision hopefuls Donna & Joe have the next new entry at No2 with ‘Love’, ahead of Tony Christie’s ‘Amarillo’ which falls to No3 after 5 weeks at the top. Eminem claims this week’s third new entry in the Top 10 with ‘Mockingbird’ coming in at No7. Bruce Springsteen holds at No1 on the Albums Chart for a second week with ‘Devils & Dust’, maintaining a comfortable lead over the nearest contenders: Basement Jaxx ‘The Singles’, up from No4 to No2, and The Killers ‘Hot Fuss’, down from No2 to No3. This week’s highest new entry is Nine Inch Nails ‘With Teeth’ at No7, a personal best on this chart for Trent Reznor and Co, six years after their last studio album ‘The Fragile’ debuted at No26.
