EA fighting chart battle on two fronts

27/Jun/2005

EA declares war on the top of the All Formats Chart this week as ‘Medal Of Honor: European Assault’ (PS2/XB/GC) advances from No2 to No1 and newcomer ‘Battlefield 2’ (PC) enters at No2 with the 8th biggest PC launch week ever (and 3rd biggest for a non-football management game, behind ‘The Sims 2’ and ‘Half-Life 2’).

Take 2/Rockstar’s ‘Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas’ (XB/PC/PS2) drops from No1 to No5 as THQ hold on to No3 with ‘Juiced’ while capturing No4 with new release ‘Destroy All Humans!’ (PS2/XB). There are 2 more new entries in the All Formats Top 10 – Namco/Sony’s classic PS2-only beat-em-up ‘Tekken 5’ improves on its predecessor’s launch in terms of units sold, but both debuted at No6, while Microsoft’s foul-mouthed Xbox-only ‘Conker: Live and Reloaded’ is new at No10 (No2 in the Xbox chart behind ‘San Andreas’). EA not only dominate the top of the chart, but also have the best Top 10 performer in ‘Batman Begins’, up 36% in sales, but down 2 places from No6 to No8. Retailer promotions mean Midway’s ‘Mortal Kombat: Deception’ jumps back into the chart at No12, overtaking Midways own ‘Area 51’ which moves down from No7 to No14. There are a total of 8 new entries in the Top 40 – Koei’s ‘Dynasty Warriors 5’ (PS2) the next highest at No15, followed by THQ’s ‘MX vs. ATV Unleashed’ (PS2/XB) at No22, Atari’s add-on ‘Rollercoaster Tycoon 3: Soaked!’ (PC) at No25 and Nintendo’s latest DS offering ‘Another Code: Two Memories’ at No28 (topping the DS Chart ahead of ‘Super Mario 64 DS’).
