Aliens advance on No1

EA’s ‘Medal of Honor: European Assault’ (PS2/XB/GC) holds off an alien invasion from THQ’s ‘Destroy All Humans!’ (PS2/XB), remaining at No1 for a second week despite dropping 31% in sales. ‘Destroy All Humans!’ blasts its way up the chart from No4 to No2, leapfrogging another THQ game, ‘Juiced’ (PS2/XB/PC) which remains at No3.

After an impressive launch week ‘Battlefield 2’ (PC) retreats from No2 to No6, below the highest new entry – EA’s ‘Cricket 2005’ (PS2/XB/PC) which debuts at No5. ‘Cricket 2005’ outperforms EA’s previous cricket games giving the publishing giant four Top 10 and eleven Top 40 games in this week’s All Formats Entertainment Chart. The alien invasion theme continues with the launch of ‘Area 51’ on PC, pushing Midway’s FPS up from No14 to No11. The end of the second quarter sees only 2 more new releases make the Top 40 – Activision’s multi-format movie tie-in ‘Madagascar’ debuts at No12, while Sony’s ‘Formula 1 05’ is new at No17. Summer sales have an effect on this week’s chart with ‘Lego Star Wars’ up one place from No9 to No8 and Ubisoft’s ‘Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory’ sneaking up 3 places from No19 to No16 (also welcoming a DS version this week). ‘Star Wars: Battlefront’ re-enters at No21 thanks to the release of the PS2 Platinum and Xbox Classic versions.
