Blunt Sharpens Attack

15/Jul/2005

James Blunt tightens his grip on the No1 spot on the Albums Chart, making it three weeks at the top and selling more albums this week than the nearest 5 contenders combined.

Coldplay’s ‘X&Y’ remains at No2, one place ahead of Green Day’s resurgent ‘American Idiot’ which is up from No4 to No3, having now spent an impressive 42 weeks in the Top 20. The Gipsy Kings ‘Best Of’ is this week’s highest new entry at No4, their best showing on this chart since their previous compilation ‘Volare – Best Of’ reached No89 in July 1999. 2Pac and Elton John hold at No1 on the Singles Chart for a third week with ‘Ghetto Gospel’, but this week there’s a close challenge from James Blunt who just misses out on a rare Singles/Albums Chart double-top as ‘You’re Beautiful’ climbs 2 places from No4 to No2. Crazy Frog’s ‘Axel F’ drops to No3, followed at No4 by Mariah Carey’s ‘We Belong Together’, up from No6. There are only 2 new entries in the Top 30 this week, both outside the Top 10: Deep Dish ‘Say Hello’ at No18 and Republic Of Loose ‘Comeback Girl’ at No23.
