Blunt Scores A Second Double

James Blunt continues to dominate the charts this week, taking pole position on both Singles and Albums Charts for a second week with ‘You’re Beautiful’ and ‘Back To Bedlam’, although sales of both show a week-on-week decline.

Michael Jackson’s ‘The Essential’ climbs from No4 to No2 on the Albums Chart, ahead of Green Day’s ‘American Idiot’ which has a third consecutive week at No3. This week’s highest new entry is Alanis Morissette’s ‘Jagged Little Pill Acoustic’ at No16, nine years after the original version spent 18 weeks at No1 through the summer of 1996. The Top 5 singles shuffle positions this week, with James Blunt at No1, 2Pac at No2, Mariah Carey at No4 (up from No3), Kelly Clarkson at No4 (up from No5) and Crazy Frog at No5 (down from No3). There are 2 new entries in this week’s Top 10: Eminem at No6 with ‘Ass Like That’ , his 13th Irish Top 10 single, and Big Generator at No10 with ‘Walking In My Shoes’. This cover version of Depeche Mode’s 1993 hit is the Galway-based veterans’ third Irish Top 20 single in 9 years (following ‘Don’t Walk Away’ which reached No14 in 1996 and ‘Sometimes’ which reached No15 in 1999) and is released in association with APA (Aids Partnership Africa).
