FIFA hat-trick defeats Marvel's super heroes

17/Oct/2005

‘FIFA 06’ (PS2/XB/PC/GC/DS/GBA and PSP new this week) scores a hat-trick, remaining No1 in the All Formats Top 40 for a third consecutive week, defending its lead from ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06’ which holds on to No2 and the in-form ‘Spartan: Total Warrior’ (PS2/XB/GC) up from No8 to No3. Sega’s ‘Spartan: Total Warrior’ achieves the highest Top 40 sales jump this week (sales up 59%), ahead of the only Top 10 newcomer ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ (PS2/XB/GC/DS/PC/GBA) from Activision, which leaps in at No4.

Ubisoft force their way into the Top 10 thanks to this week’s highest climber ‘Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood’ (XB/PC) which is awarded the No7 position, up from No16. The next highest new entry is also an Activision Marvel comic book franchise: the action-RPG sequel ‘X-Men Legends II: Rise of Apocalypse’ (PS2/XB/GC/PC) debuting at No11. EA also get in on the Marvel comic franchise act, but can only manage No34 with the beat-em up ‘Marvel Nemesis: Rise of the Imperfects’ (PS2/XB/GC). However, EA’s ‘FIFA 06’ dominates the individual format charts, topping PS2, Xbox, PSP and Gamecube with only PC, DS and GBA the odd ones out. Konami’s movie tie-in ‘Wallace & Gromit: Curse of the Were-Rabbit’ (PS2/XB) debuts at No15, while Empire’s ‘Taito Legends’ (XB/PS2/PC) rather than Midway’s newly released ‘Midway Arcade Treasures 3’ brings retro gaming back into the Top 40, entering at No18. The other new releases to make the Top 40 this week are Take 2’s ‘Serious Sam II’ (XB/PC) at No 23 and EA’s ‘FIFA Manager 06’ at No28 (in its second week of release).
