THQ’s ‘WWE Smackdown! Vs Raw 2006’ (PS2) grabs the title belt from Lucasarts’ multi-format ‘Star Wars: Battlefront II’ (down 35% in sales from No1 to No2) to become All Formats No1 and crowned the fastest selling PS2 wrestling game (ahead of ‘WWE Smackdown! Here comes the Pain’).
EA account for the only two Top 10 chart climbers: ‘FIFA 06’ up one place from No4 to No3 and ‘The Sims 2’ rising from No10 to No7 thanks to an improved second week’s sales from the new console versions (PS2/XB/GC/GBA/DS). EA magic up a third title to join their increasing Top 10 presence with the multi-format ‘Harry Potter & the Goblet of Fire’ new at No6. Capcom’s impressive ‘Resident Evil 4’ may have slunk back one place from No7 to No8, but second week sales of the new PS2 version are up 12% on last week. The only other game to join ‘WWE’ and ‘Harry Potter’ as a Top 10 newcomer is Atari’s ‘The Matrix: Path of Neo’ (PS2/XB/PC) which debuts at No9. Activision may not have a Top 10 game this week, with ‘Tony Hawk’s American Wasteland’ (PS2/XB/GC) falling from No6 to No11 (-22%) and ‘Call of Duty 2’ (PC) down from No9 to No18 (-39%), but they have 7 in the Top 40 of which 2 are new entries - ‘Gun’ (PS2/XB/PC) shooting in at No14 and the PC sim-cinema game ‘The Movies’ making its debut at No28. Sony have 3 games in the Top 40, all of them supporting differing gaming peripherals: ‘Eye Toy: Play 3’ (PS2 camera game) enters the Top 40 at No34 (in its second week of release), Singstar ‘80s (PS2 microphone) drops one place from No22 to No23 despite a rise in sales of 44% and ‘Buzz! The Music Quiz’ (PS2 buzzer controller) is up one place from No17 to No16 (up 48% in sales).
