Xbox 360 joins EA’s Need for Speed as this week’s most wanted Christmas present with 10 out of the 15 Xbox 360 launch titles appearing in the All Formats Top 40 and the Xbox 360 console becoming the fastest selling static console ever in the UK.
Xbox 360 hardware launched on 2nd December with the £279 Full System pack outselling the £209 Core System by 2:1. Xbox 360 edged ahead of Gamecube’s launch week record, which is impressive when you consider Nintendo’s console retailed at under half the Xbox 360 price. 10 of the Xbox 360 launch games are titles currently out on other formats, meaning a boost for many of EA’s top-sellers, especially ‘Need for Speed: Most Wanted’ at No1 for a second week and ‘FIFA 06’ (PS2/PSP/360/XB/DS/GBA/PC/GC) up one place from No4 to No3. However, Konami’s ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 5’ (PSP/PS2/XB/PC) continues to stop EA claiming a clean sweep of the Top 4 games by holding strong at No2, ahead of both ‘FIFA 06’and ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’ (PS2/PSP/DS/GBA/XB/PC/GC), down from No3 to No4. Activision’s ‘Call of Duty’ builds a strong presence in the Top 20 Chart thanks to ‘Call of Duty 2: Big Red One’ (PS2/XB/GC) climbing 3 places from No9 to No6 and ‘Call of Duty 2’ (PC/360) jumping 25 places up from No36 to No11 thanks to an impressive Xbox 360 showing (No3 in Xbox 360 Chart). Microsoft tops the Xbox 360 Chart with 360 exclusives ‘Perfect Dark Zero’ at No1 (No 12 All Formats) and ‘Project Gotham Racing 3’ at No2 (No16 All Formats). The blockbuster movie franchise games from Ubisoft - ‘King Kong’ (PS2/360/XB/GBA/DS/PC/GC) up 4 places from No12 to No8 (360 new this week) and Buena Vista Games - ‘Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe’ (PS2/DS/GBA/PC) up from No30 to No14, both increase in sales as the release of each film approaches (Narnia this Friday, followed by King Kong the week afterwards). The only non-360 new release to make the Top 40 All Formats chart is Ubisoft’s ‘Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones’ at No29.
