EA re-claim No1 with multi-format ‘Need For Speed: Most Wanted’ (-34%) as Ubisoft’s equally format-heavy monster movie tie-in ‘King Kong: Official Game of the Movie’ is back down to No2 (-64%) after a smash-and-grab No1 last week.
EA remain at No3 with the 8 formats of ‘FIFA 06’ (-46%), whilst Ubisoft still have something to celebrate as ‘Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones’ (PS2/XB/GC/PC) rises 6 places to a new best ever at No4 (-17%). In fact, the ‘Prince’ declined relatively little compared to most of the big hitters thanks to some amazing deals at retail. Konami stay at No5 thanks to the 4 formats of ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 5’ (-33%). Take 2 can also take heart thanks to PSP ‘Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories’ which is back in the Top 10, up 6 places to No6 (-18%). This rise in chart position is not due to price cutting – so it seems rather more plausible that those who received a PSP this Christmas without ‘GTA’ duly went out and bought it after Christmas. Sega’s ‘Shadow The Hedgehog’ (PS2/XB/GC) gets a Top 10 placing for the first time, up 4 places to No7 - helped along by some serious price activity at retail (-28%). EA’s ‘The Sims 2’ also seems to be benefiting from post-Christmas must-have software purchasing, as it climbs 9 places to reach the Top 10 again at No8, without any major price discounting (-15%). Activision remain at No9 with ‘Gun’ (PS2/XB/PC/XB360/GC) (-38%) and EA drop 4 places to No10 with the 7 formats of ‘Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire’ (-49%).
