X-Factor victor Shayne Ward makes it to No1 this week with ‘That’s My Goal’, after debuting at No3 two weeks ago and climbing to No2 last week. Stock shortages over Christmas held him back for 2 weeks, but this week he takes a massive lead over all-comers, accounting for nearly 50% of all singles sales in Ireland over the past 7 days.
Nizlopi’s ‘JCB Song’ drops to No2, ahead of Brian Kennedy and Peter Corry’s non-mover ‘George Best – A Tribute’ at No3. With only 1 new entry in the Top 30 this week (Aaron Smith & Luvli’s ‘Dancin’ at No29) 4 singles in the Top 10 reverse their recent declines: Black Eyed Peas back up to No4, Pussycat Dolls up to No5, Madonna up to No7 and Sugababes up to No10. In a good week for TV Talent Show stars, American Idol winner Kelly Clarkson finally makes it to the top of the Album Chart with ‘Breakaway’, after a 5-week steady climb from 5-4-3-2-1 and 6 months after release. Eminem drops one place to No2 with ‘Curtain Call – The Hits’ after 4 weeks at No1, closely followed by James Blunt’s ‘Back To Bedlam’, up from No5 to No3. The Strokes have this week’s sole new entry at No4 with their third album ‘First Impressions Of Earth’, matching the No4 debut of their first album ‘Is This It’ in 2001, but falling short of the No2 debut for their second album ‘Room On Fire’ in 2003.
