After several quiet weeks the Singles Chart livens up this week: the Top 3 titles remain unchanged, but there are 6 new entries in the Top 20. Beyoncé (feat. Slim Thug) leads the pack of newcomers with ‘Check On It’ debuting at No4, her 7th Irish solo hit single and second most successful to date – only ‘Crazy In Love’ charted higher (No1 in 1993).
Notorious B.I.G., with a little help from his friends, has the next new entry at No6 with ‘Nasty Girl’, his second Irish Top 10 single following ‘Mo Money Mo Problems’ which settled at No7 in 1997, the year he died. Hi_Tack complete the trio of Ten 10 debuts this week, in at No10 with their disco-house take on Michael Jackson & Paul McCartney’s ‘Say Say Say’. James Blunt’s ‘Back To Bedlam’ remains at No1 on the Album Chart – his 13th week at the top over a period of 7 months. Kelly Clarkson holds at No2 with ‘Breakaway’, followed at No3 by Jose Gonzalez ‘Veneer’, up from No6 last week and continuing a steady climb up the chart. Likewise, Hard-Fi ‘Stars Of CCTV’ and Bell X1 ‘Flock’ continue in the right direction, up to No5 and No6 respectively. Notorious B.I.G. has the sole Top 10 new entry at No10 with ‘Duets – The Final Chapter’, a collection of posthumous all-star collaborations.
