Need for Speed Most Wanted on Lap 9

06/Feb/2006

After last week’s pit stop at No2 ‘Need for Speed: Most Wanted’ returns to the top of the All Formats Entertainment Top 40, overtaking Microsoft’s Xbox 360 champion ‘Dead or Alive 4’ which is knocked down to No6 (sales down 54% over last week).

It is Need for Speed: Most Wanted’s 9th week as All Formats No1 - one week away from equalling predecessor ‘Need For Speed: Underground 2’ which managed 10 weeks at No1 through Christmas 2004 and early 2005. Familiar top sellers occupy the rest of the Top 5 with ‘The Sims 2’, ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 5’ and ‘FIFA 06’ each jumping 2 places to No’s 2, 3 and 4 respectively. Ubisoft’s ‘King Kong: Official Game of the Movie’ drops 2 places down from No3 to No5, but the French publisher does achieve this week’s only new release to break into the All Formats Top 40 with ‘Rugby Challenge 2006’ debuting at No7. Developed in the UK by Swordfish Studios and launched in time for the Six Nations, ‘Rugby Challenge 2006’ becomes the 3rd sports game in this week’s Top 10 and caps a good week for sports titles with Take 2’s Winter Olympics tie-in ‘Torino 2006’ snowballing from No38 to No13.
