Need for Speed kicks Rugby 06 into touch

13/Feb/2006

EA’s ‘Need for Speed: Most Wanted’ crosses the finishing line at No1 for the 10th time, equalling the number of weeks at No1 recorded by predecessor ‘Need for Speed: Underground 2’. If EA’s blockbuster can hold on for another week, it will become the longest serving All Formats No1 since ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire’ way back in early 2001.

There is no change in runner-up places with ‘The Sims 2’ at No2, Pro Evolution Soccer 5’ at No3 and ‘FIFA 06’ at No4. EA’s ‘Rugby 06’ (PS2/XB/PC) debuts at No5 to give EA all but one of the top 5 places and with Ubisoft’s ‘Rugby Challenge 2006’ (PS2/XB/PC) holding on to No7, there are now 2 Top 10 rugby games to coincide with the on-going Six Nations Tournament. Nintendo release 2 Mario games this week, ‘Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time’ (DS) and ‘Mario Party 7’ (GC) but only the DS title breaks into the Top 40, new at No10. Sega’s new Xbox 360 game ‘Full Auto’ comes in at No19, while Buena Vista Games’ ‘Chicken Little’ (PS2/GBA/XB/GC) hatches at No28 to coincide with the film release. No doubt as popularity for the film grows, ‘Chicken Little’ will move up the All Formats’ pecking order.
