Ubisoft's Tom Clancy spoils EA's street party

13/Mar/2006

‘FIFA Street 2’ scores a second week at No1 for EA, but Ubisoft denies the giant US publisher a record breaking 8 Top 10 All Formats games with ‘Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter’ debuting at No2 as the fastest selling Xbox 360 game yet.

EA’s multi-format new release ‘Fight Night Round 3’ has to settle for 3rd place with the Xbox 360 version outselling the PS2 by 2:1. The next 4 games all drop 2 places with ‘Black’ at No4, ‘The Sims 2: Open for Business’ No5, ‘Toca Race Driver 3’ No6 and ‘Lord of the Rings: Battle for Middle Earth II’ No7. EA’s ‘The Sims 2’ is the only other Top 10 title apart from ‘FIFA Street 2’ to increase in sales this week, a non-mover at No8. The only other new releases are both retro PSP games: Sony’s ‘Lemmings’ enters at No12, 15 years after the original game first charmed gamers with its squeaky suicidal creatures on Commodore’s Amiga, while ‘Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max’ debuts at No28, also 15 years after the launch of the original ‘Street Fighter 2’ in the arcades.
