Shayne lives up to his promise

14/Apr/2006

On the eve of the release of his debut album, Shayne Ward achieves two out of two as his new single ‘No Promises’ heads straight for the top of the Singles Chart this week, claiming his second No1 with his second release. Despite a very strong challenge and strong sales, Gnarls Barkley’s ‘Crazy’ has to settle for the No2 spot followed at No3 by Pat Shortt’s ‘Jumbo Breakfast Roll’.

This week’s only other Top 10 new entry goes to Mullingar band – The Blizzards. ‘Trouble’ - their second single, and their first since signing to Universal, enters the chart at No6 – an improved showing on their independent release of 2005 ‘First Girl To Leave Town’ which debuted at No11. The Album Chart sees a big change at the top as last week's Top 3 all slip down the rankings to make way for three new contenders. Christy Moore’s ‘Live At The Point 2006’ takes the top slot - a better first week’s position than his 2005 album ‘Burning Times’ which entered the Chart at No3. Republic Of Loose take their second album ‘Aaagh!’ to No 2 - a big leap from the debut position of No35 of their 2004 Album ‘This Is The Tomb Of The Juice’, whilst The Streets third Album – ‘ The Hardest Way To Make An Easy Living’ slips into the Chart at No3 not quite able to match the No1 debut position of 2004’s ‘A Grand Don’t Come For Free’.
