FIFA can take the heat

The World Cup kicked off on Friday, propelling EA’s ‘FIFA World Cup Germany 2006’ back to the top of the All Formats Top 40, but sales are down 33% across all versions. Eidos’ ‘Hitman: Blood Money’ is off target, falling from No1 to No2 with sales down by 54%.

There are now 7 football games in the Top 40 with 3 in the Top 10 thanks to the release of Codemasters’ nostalgic ‘Sensible Soccer 2006’ at No7, behind ‘FIFA’ at No1 and ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 5’ (9,090) at No5. ‘Football Manager 2006’ has a good start to the World Cup, up from No22 to No15. However, the hot weekend weather means sales are down with combined sales of the Top 10 games just over 100,000 units (only slightly higher than Tomb Raider: Legend’s launch week sales 10 weeks ago across PS2/XB/XB360/PC – PSP new this week makes 5 formats). There are three new releases in the All Formats Top 40 with THQ’s ‘Moto GP 06’ on Xbox 360 leading the pack at No4 and Japan’s record breaking game ‘Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training’ on DS making up the numbers at No6. No Top 40 game rises in sales this week, but another bike racing game, Sony’s PS2 ‘Tourist Trophy: Real Racing Simulation’ sees the Chart’s strongest sales performance, only down 5% in sales and up 2 places from No 14 to No12. ‘X-Men: The Official Game’ almost drops out of the Top 10, down from No5 to No10, while another film franchise ‘The Da Vinci Code’ also wilts in the summer heat, down from No13 to No26.
