Top 10: A chart of two halves

19/Jun/2006

Football fever grips the All Formats Top 40 with ‘FIFA World Cup Germany 2006’ leading the way for another week (6 out of the last 8 weeks at No1). Half of the Top 10 is made up of football games and ‘FIFA’ is not the only star player, thanks to World Cup retailer promotions on ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 5’ at No5 and ‘Sensible Soccer 2006’ up from No7 to No6.

World Cup retailer activity also promotes Eidos’ ‘Championship Manager 2006’ and Sega’s ‘Football Manager 2006’ back into the Top 10 with ‘Championship Manager 2006’ up from No14 to No9 and ‘Football Manager 2006’ up from No15 to No10. The Top 3 games may all be non-movers, but the gap between ‘FIFA’ at No1 and ‘Hitman: Blood Money’ at No2 widens thanks to ‘FIFA’ increasing in sales by 18% and ‘Hitman’ witnessing a 16% drop-off. ‘Tomb Raider: Legend’ at No3, fights off the challenge of ‘Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training’ which subtracts two from No6 to get No4. There are 3 DS exclusive games in the All Formats Top 20 in the week before the launch of DS Lite with ‘Animal Crossing: Wild World’ up 1 place from No9 to No8 and new entry ‘Nintendogs: Dalmatian & Friends’ showing some puppy love at No12. The only other Top 40 new entry is Midway’s ‘Rise & Fall: Civilizations at War’ at No14 (No2 in the PC Full Price Entertainment Chart behind ‘Half-Life 2: Episode One’).
