‘Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories’ hijacks the World Cup All Formats Chart, speeding up the Top 40 from No37 to No1 thanks to the launch of the PS2 version of the PSP game and becoming the fastest selling PS2 game of the year. Football also has to take a back seat to the rise of DS with the launch of the new DS Lite console pushing DS-exclusives ‘Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training’ up from No4 to No3 and ‘Nintendogs: Dalmatian & Friends’ up from No12 to No7, while ‘Animal Crossing: Wild World’ falls from No8 to No10 despite a rise in sales of 30%.
Konami’s ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 5’ is the only Top 10 football game to increase in sales, up 15% on last week, climbing from No5 to No4 with EA’s ‘FIFA World Cup Germany 2006’ down from No1 to No2 and Codemasters’ ‘Sensible Soccer 2006’ falling from No6 to No9. There are 8 DS-exclusives in the All Formats Top 40 (the same number at the launch of the original DS 15 months ago). 5 of these are re-entries: ‘Metroid Prime: Hunters’ at No16, ‘Mario Kart DS’ at No27, ‘Tetris DS’ at No29, ‘Sonic Rush’ at No33 and ‘Super Monkey Ball Touch & Roll’ at No40, most benefiting from retailer hardware bundling. Midway’s ‘Rise & Fall: Civilizations at War’ vanquishes ‘Half-Life 2: Episode One’ to be crowned No1 in the PC Chart, entering the All Formats Top 10, up from No14 to No8. 3 new releases join the mix: Activision’s film tie-in ‘Over the Hedge’ at No12 (with the only DS new entry at No5 in the DS Chart), ‘Dynasty Warriors 5: Empires’ at No13 and colourful PSP platformer ‘LocoRoco’ at No25.
