Last week’s All Formats Chart traffic jam turns into a road block with the Top 3 all non-movers for a fourth consecutive week. THQ’s ‘Cars’ remains in the lead, continuing to outrun Take 2’s ‘Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories’ by almost double the sales.
Nintendo consolidates its position at No3 with ‘New Super Mario Bros.’ while Dr. Kawashima experiences a brain drain as ‘Dr. Kawashima’s Brain Training’ drops one place from No5 to No6 with sales falling by 20% (the 2nd highest sales decline in this week’s All Formats Top 20). However Nintendo can celebrate the return to the Top 10 of the TV promoted ‘Animal Crossing: Wild World’ climbing 7 places from No16 to No9, giving the Japanese giant 3 DS exclusives in the Top 10. The top spot in each individual format chart stays the same this week (except for budget Xbox and budget Gamecube) with ‘Cars’ holding on to No1 on Full Price PS2, PSP, Xbox, Gamecube and GBA. ‘Cars’ is now the only movie licensed game to remain in the Top 10 as ‘Over the Hedge’ slips from No10 to No15 and Disney’s handheld ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest’ walks the plank from No9 to No17. Outside the Top 10, THQ are also performing well with ‘Monster House’ up 6 places from No18 to No12. Retailer promotions on ‘Lego Star Wars’ and ‘True Crime: New York City’ propel them both back up the chart with TT Games’ classic climbing from No29 to No20 and Activision’s GTA clone re-entering the Top 40 at No27. Take 2 themselves also benefit from retailer promotions with ‘The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion’ re-entering at No25.
