Justin Timberlake debuts at No1 on this week’s Album Chart with his second solo album ‘Futuresex/Lovesounds’, becoming the first artist of 2006 to top the Irish Singles and Album Charts in the same week – and the first since Westlife performed the same feat with ‘You Raise Me Up’ and ‘Face To Face’ back in November 2005. In contrast, his debut solo release ‘Justified’ came in at No24 and took 12 weeks to reach No1 in February 2003.
Snow Patrol dip back to No2 with ‘Eyes Open’, having now bounced 1-2-1-2-1-2 over the past six weeks, remaining well clear of The Kooks who climb back to No3 with ‘Inside In/Inside Out’. There’s only one other new entry in this week’s Top 30: Basement Jaxx at No29 with their fourth studio album ‘Crazy Itch Radio’: of the previous three, only ‘Rooty’ debuted higher – at No15 in June 2001. Justin Timberlake leads a pack of non-movers on this week’s Singles Chart with the Top 5 unchanged from last week: Cascada at No2, Scissor Sisters at No3, Chamillionaire at No4 and Nelly Furtado at No5. Dublin’s Royseven break the deadlock, new at No6 with their debut single ‘Older’ and two places ahead of the next new entry at No8 from the Killers ‘When You Were Young’ – download only, with physical release today (15th September).
