Sega manages to outplay FIFA

The battle of the football management games begins this week with ‘Football Manager 2007’ debuting at No1 on the All Formats Chart, with rival ‘Championship Manager 2007’ slipping from No9 to No10. ‘FIFA 07’ drops to No2 after 3 weeks on top and with the launch of ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 6’ only one week away, the battle of football action titles is imminent.

Sega’s perennial PC chart-topper does one better than its predecessor by claiming top spot in the All Formats Chart, but misses out on beating Football Manager 2006’s launch week sales by just over 1,000 units. UK-based developer Sports Interactive can now claim the Top 3 fastest-selling PC games in the UK (based on the Chart-Track panel) with ‘Championship Manager 4’ at No1, ‘Football Manager 2006’ at No2 and now ‘Football Manager 2007’ at No3. EA however still maintain a strong presence in the All Formats Top 10 with ‘FIFA 07’ down to No2 (holding on to No1 in the PS2 Chart), new entries ‘The Sims 2: Pets’ and ‘Battlefield 2142’ at No3 and No7 respectively and ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07’ still swinging, down from No5 to No9. The Top 3 games in the PC Chart are all new entries (‘Football Manager 2007’, ‘The Sims 2: Pets’, ‘Battlefield 2142’) and account for 58% of all Full Price PC sales this week. PC software is not the only top performer, with Ubisoft’s ‘Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Double Agent’ becoming the 6th fastest selling Xbox 360 game and debuting at No5 in the All Formats Chart. Vivendi’s ‘Scarface: The World is Yours’ may have slipped down 2 places from No2 to No4 in its second week of release, but still records the highest sales increase in the All Formats Top 10, up 42%. There are Top 40 re-entries for Sony’s ‘Buzz! The Big Quiz’ at No18 and ‘Singstar Rocks! at No24 thanks to retailer promotional bundling. Out of the 5 new releases to make the Top 40 this week 4 break into the Top 10 with only THQ’s ‘Destroy All Humans! 2’ debuting outside the Top 10 at No 21.
