‘Spider-Man 2’ (PS2/XB/GC/GBA/PC/N-G) has a second week of heroic proportions, sticking to the No1 spot in the All Formats Chart and web slinging its way into the history books, achieving the highest UK sales week of any Activision title ever.
This week saw the release of the movie which no doubt had a huge effect on units with sales of ‘Spider-Man 2’ on PS2 jumping by 76% (the PS2 format accounting for nearly ¾ of all ‘Spider-Man 2’ sales and overtaking ‘Driv3r’ at No1 in the PS2 Chart). ‘Spider-Man 2’ is the only title in the All Formats Top 5 to increase in sales and the Top 4 titles remain unchanged since last week. The release of 33 budget versions of EA games across all formats has had a marked effect on the chart with 14 EA published titles now in the All Formats Top 40. EA’s ‘Need for Speed: Underground’ is up from No10 to No7, while ‘FIFA 2004’ is up from No13 to No10, ‘Lord of the Rings: Return of the King’ up from No18 to No16, ‘The Sims: Bustin Out’ up from No28 to No20, ‘Medal of Honor: Rising Sun’ up from No26 to No21 (all were budgetised across all formats this week). The highest climber in the All Formats Top 40 is ‘Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2004’ (PS2/PC/XB/GBA/GC/N-G) which climbs 17 places from No32 to No15. It was only budgetised on PC, but the rise in sales is chiefly driven by this week’s staging of the British Open at Royal Troon. Two GBA ‘NES Classics’ titles enter the Top 40 for the first time: ‘Super Mario Bros’ at No19 and ‘Pacman’ at No30.
