FIFA 07 kicks in for Christmas

27/Nov/2006

EA’s ‘FIFA 07’ sidesteps both ‘Gears of War’ and team-mate ‘Need for Speed: Carbon’ to leap from No4 to No1 in the All Formats Chart. Microsoft’s record breaking Xbox 360 game ‘Gears of War’ shifts down to No3 with a drop of 42% in sales, while ‘Need for Speed: Carbon’ stalls at No2.

‘FIFA 07’ now outsells PES 6 on PS2 by a factor of 3:2 since release, while ‘PES 6’ continues to dominate ‘FIFA 07’ on Xbox 360 by a similar ratio. ‘The Sims 2: Pets’ and ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 6’ both climb one place to No4 and No5 respectively, while THQ’s ‘WWE Smackdown Vs Raw 2007’ is knocked from No3 to No6. The release this week of the PS2 version of ‘Call of Duty 3’ helps to soften its decline on Xbox 360 with Activision’s war-themed FPS holding on to No7. The force is still strong with Lucasarts’ ‘Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy’ a non-mover at No8, while THQ’s ‘Bratz: Forever Diamondz’ continues to shine at No9 with the highest sales increase of a Top 10 game this week (up by 45%). THQ now have 3 Top 10 All Formats games thanks to ‘Cars’ parking itself at No10, up one place from No11 (budget versions new this week). The DS phenomenon continues this week with ‘Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training’ up 2 places to No12 and ‘Nintendogs: Lab & Friends’ re-entering the Top 40 at No13. Nintendo might not have a game in the Top 10, but they now have 5 in the All Formats Top 20. Activision/RedOctane strike the right chord with ‘Guitar Hero II’ debuting at No16 (out-performing its predecessor’s first week by almost 3:1). The release of the film on DVD has helped Ubisoft’s ‘Pirates of the Caribbean: Jack Sparrow’ back into the All Formats Top 40 at No23. Several big new releases have not made the All Formats Top 40 this week, including ‘Warhammer: Mark of Chaos’ on PC from Deep Silver/Namco-Bandai Games, EA’s ‘Cricket 07’, Eidos’ buzzer-enabled ‘Who Wants to be a Millionaire: Party Edition’, ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ on Xbox 360 from Sega and Midway’s ‘Happy Feet’.
