EA takes on the role of Santa Claus, claiming No1 in the Christmas Chart for a fourth consecutive year and celebrating 6 Christmas No1s in the past 10 years. EA denies itself a third consecutive Need for Speed Christmas No1 with ‘NFS: Most Wanted’ and ‘Underground 2’ topping the All Formats Charts in the previous two years, while ‘NFS: Carbon’ has to settle for second place, but only by a margin of 4,500 sales. EA’s ‘The Sims 2: Pets’ stays at No6, despite the launch of the PSP version, while Microsoft’s ‘Gears of War’ rises from No8 to No7. ‘Gears of War’ becomes the only single-format game in the Top 10 with Nintendo’s ‘The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess’, slipping out of the Top 10 from No5 to No12, despite being joined by the Gamecube version. Midway’s ‘Happy Feet’ celebrates a Top 10 appearance at No8, up from No11, while Lucasarts ‘Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy’ and THQ’s ‘Cars’ complete the Top 10 line-up. Late surges from handheld titles ‘Dr Kawashima’s Brain Training’, up from No13 to No11 and ‘Grand Theft Auto: Vice City Stories, up from No18 to No13 aren’t enough to break into the Top 10, while continued strong sales of the Microsoft bolt-on bundle push ‘Project Gotham Racing 3 further up the Chart from No22 to No14. Film tie-in game ‘Flushed Away’ swims into the All Formats Top 40 at No26 after 4 weeks on release, giving D3 Publisher their first ever All Formats Top 40 title.
