Atari’s ‘Driv3r’ (PS2/XB) is No1 in the All Formats Chart for a second week, selling more than the next four titles combined, despite a drop in sales of 17% overall.
After the advance screenings of ‘Shrek 2’, this week’s nationwide cinema release has meant Activision’s game stays strong at No2, while the run-up to the final of Euro 2004 benefited EA’s ‘UEFA Euro 2004 Portugal’ (PS2/XB/PC) which is the only climber in the All Formats Top 10 (up from No5 to No3). Sony’s button-bashing Olympics tie-in ‘Athens 2004’ (PS2) is the highest new entry this week, coming in at No8 (selling more than twice as much as ‘Sydney 2000’ on PS1 on its launch 4 years ago, but not bettering the Eidos title’s best sales week, which was actually 6 weeks after launch - week 39, 2000). The only other new release to enter the All Formats Top 40 is Acclaim’s ‘Showdown: Legends of Wrestling’ (PS2/XB), debuting at No18, which means that 40% of the All Formats Top 40 is made up of car racing/sports related games. Three titles released 2 weeks ago (all from Vivendi) enter the All Formats Chart for the first time, the highest of which is ‘Crash Bandicoot: Fusion’ (GBA) at No24, followed by its stablemate ‘Spyro: Fusion’ (GBA) at No31 and ‘Ground Control II: Operation Exodus’ (PC) at No40. Retailer promotions enhance sales of EA/Namco/Nintendo’s ‘Soulcalibur II’ (PS2/XB/GC) which re-enters at No14.
