After debuting 2 weeks ago at No17 and climbing to No6 last week on the strength of downloads, Avril Lavigne moves up to No1 on the Singles Chart with the CD release of ‘Girlfriend’, her eighth Top 20 single in Ireland and her second No1 – her debut ‘Complicated’ spent 2 weeks at the top in October 2002.
The Fray’s ‘How To Save A Life’ slips to No2 after just one week at the top, ahead of ‘You’re A Star’ winner David O’Connor’s ‘On Borrowed Wings’, up 20 places from No23 to No3. Ex-Zoo lead singer Greg Ryan has this week’s highest new entry at No5 with ‘Why’, a charity single in aid of Irish Autism Action. Cascada celebrates a fourth consecutive week at the top of the Album Chart with ‘Everytime We Touch’, denying Kings Of Leon a No1 debut as they settle for No2 for their third album ‘Because Of The Times’. Their first album 2003’s ‘Youth & Young Manhood’ peaked at No18 and the follow-up ‘Aha Shake Heartbreak’ debuted and peaked at No3 in 2004: both albums re-enter this week’s chart at No38 and No34 respectively, promoted alongside the new album.
