PES 08 shoots and scores

29/Oct/2007

Football continues to dominate the scene for a 4th week in a row with a 1-2-3 of familiar names…except that what would have been known as Konami’s ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 7’ is now Konami’s ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 2008’ and debuts at No1 in exactly the same week as last year with virtually identical sales (PES 6 debuted with slighty more).

PES 6 arrived on 3 formats (PS2, 360, PC) with PS2 taking a commanding 73% of week 1. This time round and the world is changing, with PES 2008 debuting on 4 formats (PS2, 360, PS3, PC) and although PS2 is still the lead format, PS2 share is down to 42% of week 1 with Xbox 360 doing very well on 30%. EA have to be content with a second week at No2 for ‘FIFA 08’ (+14%) after a 2 week run at No1, followed at No3 by Sega’s ‘Football Manager 2008’ (-38%) having debuted at No1 last week. Nintendo’s DS ‘The Legend Of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass’ remains at No4 (-11%) for a second week since launch whilst THQ climb 2 places to No5 thanks to ‘Ratatouille’ (+35%), also featuring prominently at a cinema near you. EA drop 3 places to No6 with ‘The Orange Box’ (-40%) whilst Nintendo debut at No7 with Wii ‘Metroid Prime 3: Corruption’. Microsoft sit at No8 with ‘Halo 3’ (-26%) and Disney Interactive have the highest climber, up 9 places to No9 with DS ‘High School Musical: Makin’ The Cut!’ (+62%). 505 Games ‘Cooking Mama’ continues to simmer nicely, this week at No10 after 28 weeks on chart (+35%).
