Activision claim No1 with ‘Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare’ which debuts with Xbox 360/PC standard and collectors editions plus PS3 and DS versions. ‘COD 4’ has been handed back to the original developer Infinity Ward, after a hiatus last time round with another Activision studio handling development (Treyarch).
The Xbox 360 version of ‘COD 4’ is huge, claiming 63% of total sales over the formats and is the 11th biggest weekly sell-through ever and second only to ‘Halo 3’ in terms of Xbox 360 titles. ‘Call Of Duty 3’ was also released this time last year but only on Xbox and 360 with PS2 and Wii versions following 2 & 4 weeks later. Also debuting strongly at No2 is THQ’s ‘WWE Smackdown Vs Raw 2008’ on 6 formats. However, it is PS2 which claims the majority with 44% of sell-through. Last year’s version also debuted this week, but only on PS2/Xbox360, followed by PSP 5 weeks later. EA remain at No3 with ‘The Simpsons Game’ (+113%) gaining 2 new formats this week with PSP and PS3. Konami’s ‘Pro Evolution Soccer 2008’ (-55%) drops from No1 to No4, followed at No5 by EA’s ‘FIFA 08’ (-19%). Nintendo’s DS Brain Training titles climb nicely to No6 (+55%) and No7 (+36%) this week, in keeping with a massive surge in DS hardware sales. Other Christmas hopefuls joining the fray this week are Disney’s PS2 ‘High School Musical: Sing It!’ at No12, Lucasarts’ ‘Lego Star Wars: The Complete Saga’ at No17 on 360/PS3 and Sony’s PS3 ‘Ratchet & Clank: Tools Of Destruction’ at No19.
