The churn at the top of the Album Chart continues this week with Jack Johnson debuting at No1 with his fifth album ‘Sleep Through The Static’ – the sixth different chart-topper in as many weeks, but the first to be recorded with 100% solar energy! Jack’s previous best was No4 for ‘In Between Dreams’ two years ago, although all five albums have made the Irish Top 75.
Tom Baxter slips back to No2 with ‘Skybound’, ahead of Adele - a non-mover at No3 with ‘19’. Hot Chip have the next new entry at No9 with their third album ‘Made In The Dark’. Their independently-released debut ‘Coming On Strong’ failed to chart, but the follow-up for EMI ‘The Warning’ reached No52 and was shortlisted for the 2006 Mercury Music Prize. Basshunter makes it three weeks at No1 on the Singles Chart with ‘Now You’re Gone’ (feat. DJ Mental Theo’s Bazzheadz), still ahead of Nickelback’s ‘Rockstar’ which has a second week at No2 after 11 weeks in the Top 40. Rihanna climbs back into the Top 10 this week, up from No11 to No6 with the CD release of ‘Don’t Stop The Music’, her seventh Top 10 single in Ireland. Rihanna was the top-selling artist in Ireland on downloads last year, just ahead of runner-up Timbaland who has this week’s highest new entry at No15 with ‘Scream’ (feat. Keri Hilson & Nicole Scherzinger), the fourth hit single from his ‘Shock Value’ album.
