After an incredible 36 weeks in the Top 40 Singles Chart on the strength of downloads of the live version, Sharon Shannon & Mundy’s ‘The Galway Girl’ finally climbs to No1 with the CD release of the studio version.
Flo Rida has a second week at No2 with ‘Low’ (feat. T-Pain), ahead of Estelle & Kanye West’s ‘American Boy’ at No3 and Chris Brown’s ‘With You’ at No4. Glen Keating & Greg Ryan dip from No1 to No5 with ‘The Munster Song’, victims of their own success as stock could not keep up with demand. Hotly-tipped newcomer Sam Sparro has this week’s highest climber in the Top 30, leaping from No21 to No7 with ‘Black & Gold’, released this week on CD. Highest new entry honours go to Eleanor Shanley & Friends, who debut at No16 with the Waterboys song ‘Strange Boat’ – part of a project to raise awareness of the need for organ donation. Mary Black climbs back to No1 on the Album Chart with ‘25 Years – 25 Songs’, after being displaced last week by R.E.M, who slip to No2 this week after one week on top with ‘Accelerator’. The Rolling Stones have this week’s highest new entry at No10 with the soundtrack to Martin Scorsese’s concert documentary ‘Shine A Light’ – their third Top 20 album this century in Ireland, following ‘40 Licks’ which spent 3 weeks at No1 in 2002, and ‘A Bigger Bang’ which debuted & peaked at No18 in 2005.
