As the year draws to a close the Official Christmas No1 Single is revealed and spells three in a row for the X-Factor. This year’s winner, Alexandra Burke, repeats the achievements of the previous two X-Factor victors and takes the coveted Christmas crown, as she holds onto the top spot with ‘Hallelujah’ for a second week. In the process she achieves the highest sales for a Christmas single in recent times as well as the second highest selling single of the year behind Sharon Shannon & Mundy’s ‘The Galway Girl’.
Pat Shortt climbs 2 places to No2 with ‘Where Did My Money Go’ while Beyoncé completes the Top 3 with ‘If I Were A Boy’ – down one place from last week. Jeff Buckley’s version of ‘Hallelujah’ continues its rise up the Chart moving from last week’s No9 to this week’s No8. The Top 3 Albums in the Christmas Chart remain unchanged since last week with Take That holding on to the No1 position for a third week with ‘The Circus’ , The Priests self-titled album sticking at No2 and Leona Lewis’ ‘Spirit’ holding at No3. All three take their place in the Top 5 Albums of the year although none can quite match the might of the Kings Of Leon who take the prize for the best selling album of 2008 with ‘Only By The Night’, closely followed by The Script ‘s debut album at No2. Leona Lewis, Take That and The Priests fill positions 3, 4 & 5 respectively.
