Sega's Sonic stops the EA chart-topping juggernaut

09/Feb/2004

EA’s dominance of the All Formats Chart starts to decline this week thanks to Sega’s ‘Sonic Heroes’ (PS2/GC/XB) entering the charts at No1 and Acclaim’s ‘Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance 2’ (PS2/XB) debuting at No5.

This is the first time in 15 weeks that there has not be an EA title at No1 in the All Formats Chart with last weeks No1 EA’s ‘Need for Speed: Underground’ (PS2/XB/GC/PC/GBA) dropping to No2. Take 2’s ‘Mafia’ (PS2/PC) is the highest climbing game in the All Formats Chart this week, up 3 places from No6 to No3 with its PS2 sales up 38% on last week. There are 4 other new releases this week, all of which make it into the Top 20 of the All Formats Chart: Eidos’ ‘Legacy of Kain: Defiance’ (PS2/XB/PC) enters at No11, followed by EA’s ‘Looney Tunes: Back in Action’ (PS2/GBA/GC) in at No15, ‘Midway Arcade Treasures’ (XB/PS2) in at No17 (and also tops the All Formats Budget Chart) followed by Deep Silver/Koch’s Elite-style game ‘X2 The Threat’ (PC) entering at No18. Sega’s ‘Sonic Heroes’ now becomes the game to beat by also claiming the No1 spot in the PS2, Xbox and Gamecube Charts with the Xbox version marking Sonics’ debut on that format.
