In the final weekly chart of 2009 Joe McElderry takes a third week at No1 with ‘The Climb’, and in the process he overtakes Black Eyed Peas ‘I Gotta Feeling’ to claim the top-selling single of the year in Ireland by a margin of 6,000 sales.
Lady Gaga caps an amazing debut year as ‘Bad Romance’ climbs to No2, ahead of a resurgent Ke$ha, whose ‘Tik Tok’ climbs back from No9 to No3 after eight weeks in the Top 10. It’s also a good week for Alexandra Burke, with ‘Bad Boys’ back up to No10 and ‘Broken Heels’ entering the Top 20 at No12.
Michael Bublé maintains his lead over Susan Boyle to hold at No1 on the Album Chart for a third consecutive week with ‘Crazy Love’, but it’s the Britain’s Got Talent graduate who heads the end-of year rankings with ‘I Dreamed A Dream’. Paolo Nutini’s ‘Sunny Side Up’ climbs one place from No4 to No3, while Lady Gaga is up from No5 to No4 with ‘The Fame’ – the third best-selling album of the year behind Susan Boyle and Michael Bublé. All three albums sold more copies this year than last year’s best-seller – Kings Of Leon’s ‘Only By The Night’.
