X Marks The Spot Again

The X-Factor Finalists 2010 hold at No1 on the Singles Chart for a second week with ‘Heroes’, the original version of which reached No8 for David Bowie back in 1977. One more week at No1 and they’ll match the 3-week runs at the top for the previous two finalists’ songs – ‘Hero’ in 2008 and ‘You Are Not Alone’ in 2009.

Rihanna is a non-mover at No2 with former No1 ‘Only Girl (In The World)’, one place ahead of Katy Perry who climbs back to No3 with ‘Firework’.  David Guetta has this week’s highest new entry at No4 with ‘Who’s That Chick’ (feat. the ubiquitous Rihanna), his sixth appearance in the Irish Top 10 with a variety of collaborators.  Ellie Goulding climbs twelve places from No18 to No6 with her version of Elton John’s ‘Your Song’ – the original reached No13 in 1971 and a charity re-recording which coupled Elton with opera singer Alessandro Safina peaked at No29 in 2002.  Following an extravagant live performance on Sunday’s X-Factor, Nicole Scherzinger has the next new entry at No7 with ‘Poison’, the first single from her forthcoming debut solo album.

The Album Chart Top3 remains unchanged this week with Westlife’s ‘Gravity’ taking a second week at No1, narrowly ahead of Take That’s ‘Progress’ at No2 and Rihanna’s ‘Loud’ at No3.  With two hit singles under his belt, 2009 X-Factor runner-up Olly Murs has this week’s highest new entry at No11 with his self-titled debut album.  The only other Top 20 new entry is for The Black Eyed Peas at No20 with their sixth studio album ‘The Beginning’, the follow up to ‘The E.N.D’ which reached No4 last year.
