Shayne Breathless at Chart Summit

A year and a half after his self-titled first album debuted at No1 on the Irish Album Chart, Shayne Ward repeats the feat this week with the follow-up ‘Breathless’ and in the process he dislodges fellow X-Factor winner Leona Lewis, whose ‘Spirit’ dips to No3 after two weeks on top. more

High Spirits

Leona Lewis sings her way into the record books this week, crashing into the Album Chart at No1 with ‘Spirit’ – the fastest-selling debut album ever in Ireland, beating Arctic Monkeys’ 2006 debut ‘Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not’ by a 6,000 sale margin. What’s more, the only other artists to sell as many albums in a 7-day period this decade are Westlife, U2, The Beatles, Robbie Williams and Eminem. more


Home Win For Westlife

Westlife debut at No1 on the Album Chart with ‘Back Home’, their eighth No1 album in Ireland from nine releases (only ‘Allow Us To be Frank' missed out on the top spot, peaking at No2 in November 2004). What’s more, it’s the fastest-selling album in Ireland since their last offering ‘The Love Album’ in November 2006. more


Britney’s Back!

This week’s Album Chart sees a change at the top as Britney Spears achieves her first ever Irish No1 for a studio album with her fifth such release ‘Blackout’ going straight in at the top. 2000’s ‘Oops I Did It Again’ and 2001’s ‘Britney’ both peaked at No3 in the Chart while 1999’s ‘Baby One More Time’ made it to No6 and 2003’s ‘In The Zone’ reached No4. Her 2005 Greatest Hits package ‘My Prerogative’ did however take the No1 spot. more
